ABNT - Brazilian Association of Technical Standards is the only Regulation Forum in Brazil responsible for specifying technical standards for all our Country industrial sector.

Amongst the different Committees that comprise it, each one representing a section of our economy, is the CB-23 - Brazilian Committee for Packaging and Conditioning which since its creation, in 1982, has its offices at ABRE.

The CB-23 gathers together several Study Committees, each one representing a segment of the packaging sector.

The Study Committees are formed due to the need of the sector to standardize the packaging, raw materials and tests used to guarantee their quality.

Representatives of the companies that supply raw materials, of those that manufacture and the ones which use the packaging in question, as well as the test laboratories, governmental and consumer defense institutions, must be present at the Study Committees meetings.

Once the text of the standard has been prepared by the Study Committee, it will be sent to the ABNT for National Vote and later Homologation.

The CB-23 has in its portfolio over 100 standards already developed. These advise the local industry and are the base for technical rulings of INMETRO and Brazilian Legislation.
