SALES NET REVENUE
The “Packaging Macroeconomic Study ABRE/FGV Brazil” shows the good results of the sector in the period following the economic crisis. The packaging physical production grew 16.29% in the first half of 2010 compared to same period in 2009. The estimated revenue in 2010 may reach US$ 22,5 billion and the expected growth should be greater than 10%. 
PHYSICAL PRODUCTION
The physical production had a low performance until 2008. In 2009, with the economic crisis, the production suffered a fall. But, for the first quarter of the last year, there was a resumption of growth. 
In the sector's analysis, the physical production of all segments – wood, paper, corrugated board and cardboard, plastic, glass and metal – was positive, with a growth of 16.29% in the first half of 2010 compared to 2009. In 201 0, the participation of each segment in the packaging industry, compared to the previous year, highlighted the growing market for metal packaging, which jumped from 17.6% to 26.6%.

FORMAL JOB
The Brazilian packaging industry generated 14,943 formal jobs by June this year compared to the same month in 2009. The number of employees in the sector in June 2010 totaled 208,776 against 193,833 in 2009. Compared to the same month of 2008, growth is also positive. In the period, the packaging industry had registered 199,653 formal jobs.

The plastic industry is the one that employs more, totalizing, in June, 110,545 formal jobs, corresponding to 52.95% of the sector. Then is the corrugated board industry with 30,874 employees (14.79%); paper with 20,789 (9.96%), metal with 18,478 (8.85%); wood with 13,643 (6.53%); glass with 7,338 (3.51%) and cardboard with 7,109 (3.41%)

PACKAGING MATERIAL EXPORTS
The packages exported by the Brazilian industry in the first half of this year totaled US$ 184,6 million, 15% more than the same period last year, when there was a decrease of 43%. Before the first half of 2008, packaging material exports fell 34% from January to June 2010. Highlight for two segments that registered expansion in the exports: plastic (34.12%) and paper/cardboard (28.51%).
PACKAGING MATERIAL IMPORTS
Packaging material imports had increased by 57% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2009. Highlight to the glass sector that leads to an increase of 122% in the first half of the year, followed by metal (108%), paper/cardboard (50%) and plastics (34%).
